Good Ranchers
Listing Description

WE BELIEVE FOOD HAS A WAY OF BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER…
…especially great food. Due to a broken food system that inflates prices and imports poor quality meat, America’s tables haven’t been full of great food for a while. Good Ranchers was founded by Ben and Corley Spell as a result of their search for honest and quality food to feed their growing family.

By sourcing all of our meat from local, independent farms in the U.S., we are connecting people to quality products they can’t get anywhere else. Together, we will make the American farm strong again and restore the American table to what it was always meant to be: a place of real community, remarkable quality, and true change.

thredUP
Listing Description

At thredUP, we believe in a sustainable fashion future.
Thrifting is about more than just finding amazing deals on your favorite brands. It’s about shopping with intention, rejecting throwaway fashion culture, and standing for sustainability. The clothes we wear have the power to create change.

In 2009, our co-founder & CEO James Reinhart realized he had a closet full of clothes he didn’t wear. He wasn’t alone. He knew there was value in those clothes, and “looking back at that moment, I certainly didn’t appreciate how that insight could eventually upend how we look at innovation in retail, the apparel industry, and our environment.”

The Or Foundation
Listing Description

The Or Foundation (pronounced “or”) stands for choice. Choice is agency – agency to escape the predominant violent socio-economic system of corporate colonialism and to change it from within. We are a 501(C)(3) public charity in the USA and a registered charity in Ghana that has been operating in both countries since 2011. Working at the intersection of environmental justice, education and fashion development, our mission is to identify and manifest alternatives to the dominant model of fashion – alternatives that bring forth ecological prosperity, as opposed to destruction, and that inspire citizens to form a relationship with fashion that extends beyond their role as consumer.
Tangibly our goal is to catalyze a Justice-Led Circular Economy. There are many layers to this work, including immediate relief through direct action on human rights and environmental abuses, educational programming and awareness in order to shift individual actions, and research and institutional advocacy to steer systems level policies and investments. At every level our initiatives are founded on the belief that Justice within the violent yet beautiful world we share begins with Reckoning, Recovery and Reparations. There is much work to be done.

Buy Nothing
Listing Description

In a nutshell:

BuyNothing offers people a way to give and receive, share, lend, and express gratitude through a worldwide gift economy network in which the true wealth is the web of connections formed between people. We believe that communities are more resilient, sustainable, equitable, and joyful when they have functional gift economies.

Principles:

  • We believe our hyper-local groups strengthen the social fabric of their communities, and ensure the health and vitality of each member.
  • We come from a place of abundance ~ not scarcity.
  • We believe in abundance, we give, we ask, we share, we lend and we express gratitude.
  • We are a gift economy, not a charity. We see no difference between want and need, waste and treasure.
  • We do not buy, sell, trade, barter, or otherwise exchange money for items or services.
  • We measure wealth by the personal connections made and trust between people.
  • We value people and their stories and narratives above the ‘stuff.’
  • We are inclusive at our core.
  • We value honesty and integrity in all our interactions.
  • We view all gifts as equal; the human connection is the value.
  • We believe every community has the same wealth of generosity and abundance.

Red Lake Nation Foods
Listing Description

The Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians logo is the symbol of our nation; our sovereign nation. The design represents many things. The shape of the upper and lower Red Lake has been our trademark due to its unique shape and what it means to us: fresh water and food (walleye). The circle represents the powerful “circle of life” for ours and countless other tribes. Unity without end. The trees mark our dependence on them for shelter, transportation, warmth and many feelings of belonging to the land. The feather of the eagle is also a powerful symbol to our tribe. The eagle’s heartbeat is echoed in the drum beat of practically all tribes. The clan symbols from left to right are the bear, turtle, bullhead (fish), mink, eagle, pine martin (sable) and the kingfisher.
