Detailed Information

Tunisian Burnous–Barnous cloak.

Burnous is a cloak worn generally in winter, which brings a special touch to Jebba. Almost capital in cold time, Tunisian burnous is decorated with special embroidery made by famous embroiderers, named Bransias.

The item we sell, Burnous cloak, is an outfit in the shape of a hooded cape that serves to stay warm, popular piece of the Maghrebin costume, the burnous is this male coat wearing a hood. It comes in different colors: brown, black or burgundy. traditionally cloak is made of wool or camel hair, however we have chosen to offer a Burnous in Polyester that allows to offer a very accessible price and quality to the appointment!

About the item in general:

Despite the presence of the Romans, Phoenicians, Ottomans, and French, the traditional Algerian costume has kept its personality. Moreover, the burnous has grown during the Middle Ages where we could see this hooded cape being worn by nobles living in the castles. Until today we can find it in movies like Star Wars, it is the cape that the Jedis wear in order to hide their faces. The Burnous was certainly inspired by George Lucas during the filming of Star Wars in Tataouine in the southern Tunisian Berber region.
